Eat the Yard was started as an urban farming business dedicated to fortifying Dallas’ local food shed and supporting American veterans. Veterans Steve Smith and James Jeffers founded Eat the Yard in 2012. With sustainable methods and entirely organic practices, they sold the highest quality produce at the Dallas Farmers Market, local restuarants, grocers and folks within their community. Our urban farming started out utilizing every square inch of James’ and Steve’s properties in Oak Cliff, friends’ yards, rooftops, and a 17-acre farm in Desoto, TX. They then converted a 3 acre parking lot in downtown dallas into Urban Farm park A few blocks from the Dallas Farmers Market. As the Dallas food movement materialized and more people were demanding ultra-local, premium quality ingredients We also started helping you Eat your yard too as we consult and help install edible landscapes, homesteads and farms. As the business has evolved we spread our wings to focus most of our time on our non profit veterans organization F.A.R.M. Farmers Assisting Returning Military. it is a non-profit educating the next generation of farmers and building resilient, organic, sustainable, regenerative and permaculture farming practices. The non-profit is a way for us to utilize our knowledge to bring forth comradarie amongst our peers, purposeful work and what we like to call "dirt therapy" visit us at @farmingveterans on social or www.farmingveterans.org
